Graham Lindsey::Dry Bones [Video]

Watching the snow flakes fly in this little Graham Lindsey video gem made me realize that maybe ninety-one degree heat with a shot of humidity isn't so bad after all. This video also reminded me just how much I love Graham Lindsey's sound. Not that I really needed a reminder.

Graham's 2003 debut Famous Anonymous Wilderness ranks pretty high on my list of favorite albums this decade and as debut records go, Wilderness is nothing short of brilliant. I actually spent the better part of my afternoon yesterday with Famous Anonymous Wilderness blasting from my stereo and the album still hits the same sweet spot these days that it did the first time I ever heard it. Going far beyond the all too obvious comparisons to an early Dylan, the eleven songs on Lindsey's debut rank right up there with Gillian Welch's Time (the Revelator) as examples of modern Americana classics which display both stark musical beauty and powerful, intelligent songwriting.

In 2006 I reviewed Lindsey's follow-up album, Hell Under the Skullbones, for AmericanaRoots and I'll be re-posting that review as part of my Record Review Rewind sometime later this week. In January of this year Graham Lindsey released his third album, We Are All Alone in This Together, and it's the one record in his brief, yet brilliant, catalog I've yet to hear. From the reviews I've read it sounds like I should really be trying to remedy that situation.

I have no idea how often Lindsey makes it out on the road to tour the East Coast. For the last three or four years I've been waiting for a 'somewhat close to home' concert date to pop up, but to this point I've either missed them all or they just haven't happened. Currently living in the Big Sky country of Montana, Lindsey is definitely one artist I'd love to see live before it's all said and done and I keep holding out that it will become a reality sooner rather than later. For now I guess the sounds calling out from my stereo and this nice cover of Bascam Lamar Lunsford's "Dry Bones" will just have to do.
